The Cost of Chaos
Thank you to all 52 of my participants for your time, and for allowing me to ask you personal questions. Thank you to my faculty advisor, Dr. Gerard Barron, for his guidance & encouragement. Thanks also to Dr. Theodore D. Wachs & Dr. Gary W. Evans, who gave great advice on direction and sources.
What is home chaos?
Home chaos is a multi-dimensional family construct that may include clutter and messiness, noise and confusion, lack of routines, and instability.
What's the big deal?
Home chaos makes life more difficult for the entire family. Adults tend to be more stressed in disorganized environments. They deal with chronic fatigue, and depression, and tend to react more negatively to children. Children who live in chronically chaotic environments have a harder time regulating their behavior, lack social competence, and often do poorly in school.
Can we do something about it?
